The tarmac (Apocope of " Tarmacadam ") is the part of the AƩroport reserved for the traffic and the parking of the planes. It comprises the carparks and the lanes, or taxiways , but not the Landing strip.

Tarmac is a proper name, it is that of a company which precisely implements bituminous mix.

Etymology: Tar = tar (in English) Mac Adam = inventive of the bituminous mix process.
