History

This shield appeared in the middle of the 15th century and is disappeared at the beginning of the 16th century. It appeared because in second half of the 15th century the largest majority of the soldiers who went in mélées had complete armours, with the result that the use of the ecu had become useless. The targe was creates while using as bases the Rondache S.

Use

It should besides be noted that this shield was used in very brought closer combat because they were often used with mow (kind of short swords), with the result that the targe could become an offensive weapon by giving a blow with to the adversary if the opportunity arose. Contrary to the normal shield, it is necessary to go “to seek” the blade of the adversary to be able it to block, or all at least to divert it and then and against-atttaquer immediately not leaving time to the adversary to react.
