The mounts Tara (in Serb Sr МасивпланинеТаре or Sr Masiv planine Tare) are a massive mountainous located at the west of the Serbia, along the border with the Bosnia-Herzégovine. This solid mass belongs to the chain of the the dinaric Alps. The culminating point of the unit is the mount Sr [[Stolac]], which rises with: 1673 m, follow-up of the mount Sr [[Zborište]] (: 1544 m). Into 1981, most of this solid mass was transformed into National park.
On the plan of the landscapes, the national park includes a certain number of peaks separated by abrupt throats, of which most important are the throats of Drina (of: 1000 m to 200 m of altitude). One finds there caves dug in karstic rocks , pits and many sources.
The three quarters of the park are covered with forests which appear among best preserved Europe. In the field of the flora, the Tara mounts shelter pine S, Sapin S, the Mélèze S, Hêtre S but also a endemic Espèce rare, the spruce of Serbia (in Latin Picea omorika ; into Serb панчићеваоморика/pančićeva omorika) discovered in 1875 by the Serb botanist Josif Pančić. This tree can reach considerable heights. Because of its scientific importance, this species was placed under the protection of the State. The park shelters also more: 1000 species of flowers, like Violet S and Narcisse S, but also two endemic species rare, a species of Peony S and a species of daphne S ( Daphne blagayana ), of white and ocher color.
In the field of fauna, the Tara mounts are populated by various species of wild animals; one can meet there Brown bear S, Chamois, Chevreuil S, lynx S, Loutre S, Loup S, Renard S, Sanglier S, Hérisson S etc Plus of 100 species of birds nest in the park, in a permanent or temporary way, like the Golden eagle, the fawn-coloured Vautour, the Peregrine falcon, the Hibou large-duke or the Tétras-lyre.
The Tara mounts are arranged for tourism. One can reach the park since Bajina Bašta (by the road Bajina Bašta - Kaluđerske Bare), since Perućac via Bajina Bašta (by the Perućac road - Mitrovac) and since Kremna (by the road Kremna - Kaluđerske bare). The throats of Drina are also accessible in boat. The Monastery of Rača, founded at the 13th century by the king Stefan Dragutin, is also in edge of the park.
