Tardets-Sorholus

Tardets-Sorholus is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Its name Basque is Atharratze Sorholuze .

Toponymy

The toponym Tardets appears in the forms Tardedz (1249, notaries of Oloron), Tardetz (XIIIe century, collection Duchesne volume CXIV), Tarzedz (1310, cartulaire of Bayonne), Tardix (1692, payment of the court of Licharre).
The toponym Sorholus is mentioned in 1520 (habit of Soule).

History

In 1790, the canton of Tardets included/understood only 10 communes, namely Haux, Laguinge-Restoue, Larrau, Licq-Athérey, Montory, Holy-Engrâce, Sauguis, Sorholus, Tardets and Three-Cities.
Tardets and Sorholus met on April 17th, 1859.
September 1st, 1905 took place the opening of the section Lanne-in-Barétous - Tardets of the line Oloron-Mauléon (Compagnie of the railroad Pau-Oloron-Mauléon and the tram from Bayonne to Biarritz).
