Origin
It belongs to the Pyrenean races with curly wool which one finds in the central Pyrenees. It is resulting from a population very old arrival of Syria. It was often métissée; initially with merinos of Spain, improving the smoothness of wool, then with British races, improving conformation of carcass and the speed of growth. She is recognized since the Thirties.G^râce with the ameliorative crossings, it became the most profitable race of its family. She thus replaced the Castillonaise, the Barégeoise or the Aure and Campan. She represents today the essence of the ovine herd in the departments of Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne and Ariège: 170.000 animals including 15.000 registered ewes and 2500 rams.
Morphology
It is an ovine race of intermediate size: 65 cm for 60 kg for the ewe and 80 cm for 80 kg for the ram. The male carries horns in stretched spirals and the ewe is mound.La wool is white.
Aptitudes

The product of choice is the grazing calf which goes down again of mountain pasture in 6-10 month. Sometimes, the small quantity of hay encourages to sell the lambs before fattening or to lead the herd to winter in Gers. The wool fine but is provided little. It however allows a good protection in the open air the mountain pasture. It is a mountain breed, walker and resistant.
