Tarantass
The tarantass is a horse-drawn car which was used in Russia. One finds sometimes the orthography tarentass .
It is an opened car, comprising a bench with two or three places protected by a hood, a seat for the Cocher, four wheels with very great spacing, drawn by three horses harnessed in troika (the shaft horse , between the stretchers, goes to trot, dandis that the bricoliers , on each side, are with the gallop). The two axles are connected by two long relatively flexible arrows, from three to four meters fifty length, which ensure a minimum role of suspension. A kind of leather apron can close before case to protect the travellers from the bad weather. Per time of snow, the wheels can be deposited and the case is then placed on a sledge. The tarantass is one of the means of displacement of Michel Strogoff in the novel of Jules Verne of this name.
The télègue , or téléga , of Russian telega , is a carriage of the same type, entirely built out of wood.
