Taraise of Constantinople
Taraise of Constantinople , patriarch of Constantinople (784 - 806), born in this city towards 740, died in 806.
It was high with the patriarchate in 784, after having refused this dignity a long time, and yielded only to the authorities of the empress Irene. It made condemn the Iconoclastes to the 2nd Concile of Nicée (787) and dissuaded Constantin V to repudiate his wife. There are of him the Discours in Irene and of the Letters to the Adrien pope and others (in the collection of the Conciles of the Father Labbe). It is honoured the February 25th.
