Taquara is a Brazilian municipality of the state of the Rio Grande C Sul.

The name of the city derives from Taquara, a wild type of bamboo, which at the time covered banks of the Rio back Sinos, one of the rivers which bathe the city.

History

Taquara is a municipality of mainly German colonization. Its rise with municipality (" emancipação") take place on April 17th, 1886 under the name of Taquaral C Mundo Novo. The territory of Taquara belongs to the concession (sesmaria) conceded in 1814 with Antônio Borges de Almeida Leães, which sold it on June 20th, 1845 with Tristão Jose Monteiro and Jorge Eggers. The following year, on September 4th, 1846, the territory became the exclusive property of Tristão Monteiro. At this point in time colonization started.

September 7th, 1846, the first German immigrants arrived: the families Ritter, Lahm, Fischer, Schirmer, Krummenauer, Klein and an Italian family of the name of Raimundo which began the colonization of the Fazenda (large farm) C Mundo Novo.

September 24th, 1880, the first legal district of first authority (" Comarca") of Taquara on September 24th, 1880 was installed. The municipality appeared with the provincial law nº 1568 of April 17th, 1886. Later, by the decree of state nº1404 of December 10th, 1908, the borough received the title of City.

The history of Taquara is also told by the architecture of its old buildings as the seat of the Commercial Club which is an example of the architectonic beauty of many buildings located in the center of the city. Let us quote also the Municipal Palate Colonel Diniz Martins Rangel of construction neo-classic which dates from the beginning of the century spent, and the temples of the Churches Catholic and Protestant woman which are located one opposite the other in the main street of the city.
