Taqlid

The taqlîd (RTL rear تَقْليد, copy; imitation; routine; habit ) is the literal acceptance of the contents of a teaching of a Marja, adhesion at a legal school (Madhhab) particular or with a Mujtahid. The taqlîd is the respect, without calling them into question, of the precepts of a jurisprudence. The taqlîd consists, for that which does not have the capacity of Ijtihâd, to follow the directives stated by a Mujtahid.

There exist two types of taqlîd:

  • Taqlîd driven `ayyan (RTL rear مُعَيَّن, fixed; determined; specified ), which consists in following the principles worked out by only one legal school.
  • Taqlîd mutlaq (RTL rear مُطْلَق, absolute; unconditional; total ), which consists in following the opinion of a school on a precise question and the opinion of a different school compared to another question.
