Tapestry of furnishing

The tapestry of furnishing gathers the techniques and the know-how of the trade of Tapissier garnissor.

Among other task, the tapestry of furnishing consists of the repair of seats, of which here stages:

  1. Raking : The tapestry maker discovers then entirely dismantles the seat to keep only the carcass. This work is sometimes long and tiresome because all the nails should be withdrawn as all the seeds which maintain the whole of the cover and the trimming.

  2. repairing of the carcass : Depending on the state of the seat, the tapestry maker must often carry out joinings to reinforce the carcass. He can also call upon a cabinetmaker for the repairing of the piece of furniture. It is also the moment to carry out the varnishing of the part, or to proceed to the patina.

  4. the installation of the trimming : Traditional method: With his knowledge to make, the tapestry maker fixes the springs, then the fabric and finally the hair. A modern method consists in replacing this system by foam (ideally Bultex) cut out to measure.
