Tannery

A tannery is a workshop where Peau X of animals (ox, sheep, goat, pig) are treated chemically and mechanically for the production of Cuir.
The product used can have a natural origin (Tanin coming from certain forest gasolines like the ChĂȘne), or be chemicals of synthesis.
In the tannery, the skins are cleaned: on their outside the Hair S and filths are removed, on their interior face the interior skin is removed.
The skins are then soaked in basins containing of the Tanin for a certain period, then they are withdrawn, washed then dried.
This operation is called the Tannage, the craftsman who carries out it is the Tanneur.
