The pond of Bouzey is a vast water level of 140 hectares being used as tank with the Canal of the East which runs a little more in north. This water level is in the middle of the department of the the Vosges, on the territory of the communes of Sanchey, Chaumousey, Girancourt and Renauvoid.
The annexation of Alsace-Lorraine in 1871 pushed France to be a new inland waterway in the East of the country. It will be thing made between 1874 and 1887 with the boring of the Canal of the East. The channel requiring a tank for the operation of the locks, a gravity dam was established on the Avière with the locality of Bouzey on the commune of Chaumousey, intended to retain seven million meter-cubic water.
