Tangential North

The Tangentielle North is a project of line of Railroad francilienne of by-pass projected by STIF and having to connect the stations of Sartrouville in the Yvelines and Noisy Dryness in Seine-Saint-Denis.

This line, which will skirt the Ligne of Large Belt used by the trains of freight, should open as from 2014 for the central section Épinay-sur-Seine the RER C - <-> Le Bourget the RER B. It will be exploited by light trains, close to a material of Tramway, the Citadis Dualis, derived from urban Citadis.

With a frequency of a train every five minutes, it will connect the two termini, located 29 away kilometers, in a little more than one half an hour, with a Block speed approximately 60 km/h and a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

A very detailed attention is lent to the environment by respecting urban fabric, by ensuring the safety of the residents by the suppression of the existing level crossings and by setting up the acoustic protections integrated into the landscape.

A beginning of financing is envisaged with the Plan contract State-Area 2000-2006.

Rolling stock

It is envisaged to exploit the line by oars Citadis Dualis of Alstom, derived from the Citadis of the same manufacturer.

Indeed, the SNCF ordered in April 2007 31 oars of this new material to satisfy the perish-urban needs intended for the Rhone-Alps area and the Area Pays-de-la-Loire.

In addition, 169 other oars are in option, for including 83 for the needs for the Ile-de-France. It is envisaged by it 38 for Tangential the North, of which only 11 will be ordered firm for the startup of the first section of this project (Épinay-sur-Seine - Le Bourget).

Dualis is a 2,65 m of width and 42 m length electrical material, with a load with the axle of 11,5 T, a maximum speed of 100 km/h. It is capable of strong accelerations and can climb slopes of 65 °%.

Completely accessible to the people with reduced mobility or in wheel chairs, it is equipped with a flat floor to 38 cm height, and can transport 250 travellers. It can circulate in double or triple units.

The project in figures

  • Envelope envisaged with the plan contract 2000-2006: 335,4 million euros
  • Cost of the line: 760 million euros
  • estimated Traffic: between 100.000 and 150.000 travellers per day
  • Interval: a train every 5 minutes in rush hours, every 10 minutes in off-peak hours.

Stages of the project

  • 1999 : prior cooperation
  • July 11th, 2000: approval of the general diagram
  • June in November 2003: complementary prior cooperation
  • September 28th, 2004: approval of the complementary general diagram (alternative light train )
  • November-December 2006: public survey
  • 2008: declaration of public utility
  • 2009: starting of work
  • 2014: startup of the section Epinay-sur-Seine - Le Bourget
  • 2016: startup complête of the line

Later projects: SDRIF

If the project of Tangential North envisaged a branch between Gare of Pontoise and Épinay-sur-Seine, this project seems replaced by a simple mapping of the two lines.

On the other hand, the project of SDRIF returned public in February 2007 envisages the prolongation of Tangential North until the Gare of Noisy-the-Large - Mount of Is, in the term 2020. The project also envisages a later prolongation of the line towards the south, towards the Villiers-on-Marne, Sucy-Bonneuil and Massy longer-term.
