Tanausu
Tanausu , Tanausú or Atanausu (death in 1493) was the chief Guanche of Aceró, on the island of Palma (named by the Benahoare natives), whose defeat that inflicted to him the Castilians marked the end of the conquest of this island. Its name would mean " the obstiné" or " that which has reins".
Aceró, whose name wants to say " place fort" in guanche, was identified as being the area called today Caldera de Taburiente.
He was the last king of Palma to subject itself to the forms Castilians carried out by Alonso Fernández de Lugo. The Castilians had failed twice while trying to penetrate in the area of Caldera. A truce, with a promise of gifts and good treatments, was arranged between Fernández de Lugo and Juan de Palma, a relative of Tanausu which had converted with the Christianisme. The truce, that Tanausu had accepted, allowed its capture whereas it fell into an ambush. One it convainquit to come on the way named Adamacansis and it was taken in a ambuche at the place called today El Riachuelo, close to current the Cumbrecita.
Tanausu was made prisoner in order to be presented to Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabelle Ire of Castille. In order to defy his enemies, it is said that he refused to eat during his voyage for the Spain, and it mourrut without never re-examining the ground.
