Tampa

Tampa is a city of the west coast of the Florida, with the the United States.

History

The word “Tampa” is of origin Calusa, an Indian tribe occupying the area at the time précolombienne. The conquistador Pánfilo de Narvaez was the first European to explore the area of Tampa in April 1528. The following year, it is another Spaniard, Hernando de Soto which helped the members remaining of the forwarding of Narvaez. A peace treaty was concluded with the natives and a transitory Spanish station was established: the Spaniards quickly gave up it because of the resistance of the Indians and because there was no gold. When England acquired Florida in 1763, the bay was baptized Hillsborough Bay . It establishes several garrisons (Strong Brooke).

The growth of the city holds with discovered of Phosphate S in 1883. Tampa also at that time became a great production center of cigars, employing Italian and cuban immigrants. In 1956 was created the University of Florida of the South. Today, Tampa, as the remainder of Florida, attracts the pensioners of the north of the country.

Sport

The team of American football of Tampa, " Buccaneers de Tampa Bay " , gained the Super Bowl in 2002.
