Tamdhu

Tamdhu is a Distillerie of Whiskey of the Speyside located in the town of Knockando in the Banffshire in Scotland.

Distilling was creates in 1897 by a group of assemblers wanting to launch out in the production of their own whiskey. It passed quickly to the hands of Highland Distillers. The history of distilling rather quiet, without change of owners but was marked all the same by a long deactivation between 1927 and 1947.

Its production capacity was tripled between 1972 and 1975. Distilling has 3 today wash stills and 3 spirit stills. Its annual production of pure alcohol is of 4 million liters.

Contrary to its Scottish neighbors distilling does not have a roof in the shape of pagoda to the top of its furnaces with malt. It is one of last distillings to always malting the totality of its barley on the spot according to the mechanical process saladin.

The whiskey of Tamdhu is almost completely used for the production of Blend S such The Famous Grouse , J&B and Cutty Sark . Tamdhu markets an individual malt without mention of age. The other individual malt are marketed by independent bottlers.
