Taksin

Mothern is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.

Geography

Mothern is located not far from the the Rhine in the north-eastern end of Alsace. The German border, by the road of Lauterbourg, is with 6 kilometers hardly. The village is composed of two contiguous parts: The High-Village and the Low-Village. The second is on the old bed of the Rhine before it is channeled while the first occupies the hill which dominates the plain of about thirty meters. The brook Kabach borrows the small valley of Hundsaecker, between Dasselberg (143 m) and Meisterberg (158 m) to flow directly in the Rhine on the level of the port of Lauterbourg.

The commune is with the crossroads of the secondary road 89 on a north-western/south-eastern axis and RD 248 which leads to Lauterbourg in the North-East and Seltz in south-west. The line FOR THE THIRD TIME Strasbourg-Lauterbourg also offers a railway access to the village.

The communes bordering are Lauterbourg in north, Illingen in Germany in the east, Munchhausen in the south, Wintzenbach in the west and Neewiller-près-Lauterbourg in the North-West.

History

At the time of the Second world war, the inhabitants one summers evacuated towards Bussière-Poitevine in the Limousin; since, the two communes are twinned.
