Takeru Kobayashi

Takeru Kobayashi (小林尊), called " The Tsunami" is a Japanese born in 1978.

It is very famous with the Japan to be regarded as the big eater of the world.

However of a reasonable weight (65 kilos in 2005), it was able to swallow:

  • 97 Hamburger S in 8 minutes (world records, on October 28th 2006)
  • 63 Hot dog S in 12 minutes (2007)
  • 58 sausages Johnsonville brat in 10 minutes (world records, on August 5th 2006)
  • 8 kilos of ox brain in 15 minutes
  • 9 kilos of Onigiri (of the Japanese rice balls) in 30 minutes
  • 83 Chinese raviolis with vegetables in 8 minutes (August 2005)
  • 100 “mouthfuls of pig to the vapor” ( baozi ) in 12 minutes (August 2005)

The contests of “big eater” were very popular on television Japanese until a 14 year old teenager does not die of food excess to the canteen of his school in 2002.

Takeru Kobayashi gained the contest televised “ Glutton Bowl #1 ” in 2002, but was beaten in 2003 with a contest of hot-dogs by a Brown bear with the emission “ Man vs. Beast ” (" man against animal ").

The Nathan contest

In 2006, it improved its world records of 2004 (53,5) by eating 53,75 hotdogs in twelve minutes with the Nathan contest being held all the July 4th in New York.

It was the 6th consecutive year (2001-2006) which Takeru Kobayashi gained this contest. Nevertheless, it was the first year that Joey Chestnut, Californian 22 years become the American champion, pursued it in second place with 52 sandwiches.

At the beginning of 2007, it had suffered from an arthritis of the jaw which has occurred at the time of a drive and had had to be made extract from the wisdom teeth.

With the contest of July 4th 2007, it improved its own score by swallowing 63 sandwiches, but was beaten all the same by Joey Chestnut, which is thus the new recordman with 66 hot-dogs swallowed in 12 minutes.

To note: its method for ingurgiter the hot-dogs - consisting in then simultaneously cutting the sandwich in two equal shares for the ingurgiter - was called the “method of Solomon”.
