Takeaki Enomoto
Takeaki Enomoto (榎本武揚 Enomoto Takeaki , August 15th 1836 - August 26th, 1908) was an admiral of the Japanese imperial Marine under the shogunat Tokugawa. It fought against the troops of the government Meiji at the time of the war of Boshin, but served then Meiji, victorious of this war.
Enomoto was born in a family being used the Tokugawa clan in full period as isolationism of Japan. The country had then limited these contacts with the Netherlands, China and Korea. Takeaki Enomoto then learned Dutch and at 26 years left to the Netherlands to study the techniques of naval action of Dutch.
It returned then to Japan on the Kaiyo Maru , a boat very last thing ordered by Japan in the Netherlands. Enomoto was promoted Kaigun Fukusosai (the second plus high ranking of the marine of the shogunat Tokugawa).
It engaged in the war of Boshin but in the camp of the losers (Tokugawa) and when Meiji required of him to go with its fleet, Enomoto left to Hakodate and founded transitory the République independent of Ezo of which it took the position of president. The troops of Meiji however crushed the troops of the republic and annexed it. Enomoto was shown of high treason but was forgiven in 1872.
