Takashi Shimura

Takashi Shimura (born the March 12th 1905 under the true name of Shoji Shimazaki, dead the February 11th 1982) was one of the largest Japanese actors of the 20th century.

Born with Hyogo, it was downward of a long line of samurais. It founded at the university a theater company amateur, then joined in 1930 an occupational class. Trying its chance with the cinema, it obtained its first roles in 1935 and 1936 with Mansaku Itami then Kenji Mizoguchi.

It takes part in first film of Akira Kurosawa in 1943, thus establishing a collaboration which will reveal it in almost all films of the realizer until in 1965.

Its last appearance with the cinema was precisely done in Kagemusha of Kurosawa, but in scenes which were cut for the Western edition.

Shimura is also known for its role in Godzilla (1954).
