Its Work

Artistic step

He creates monumental sculptures, paintings, wallpapers, and others objets.
Its works draw directly from the Japanese imagery Manga, which is diverted and amplified on topics or emergent of the questionings at first sight absent from will have kitsch and “Kawaii” (in Japanese, “nice”} of the cartoons Japan eases.

It crystallizes in its works and its projects, the new subculture of Tōkyō. He is the representative of an impregnated generation of imaginary of the Manga S and Otaku s*. At the wire of time, the characters put themselves at grouiller on various supports in two dimensions or are moulded, in various formats, the tiny one with the giant, out of glass fiber and are painted (Hiropon, 1997). They take also the shape of giant plastic balloons with the yelling colors and, inflated with the helium, which invade spaces of exposure (Mr.Dob, 1997). It thinks particularly of scenographies so that “the public has the impression to be surrounded by a multitude of cameras, even if it is opposite one only and even image”. A figure with famous person, Dobe (which took today for him “value of self-portrait”), returns in a repeated way (Dobe in the Strange Forest, 1999), just as the characters Kaikai and Kiki as well as reasons of mushrooms (Super Nova), flower and eyes (Jellyfish Eyes). At the end of the Eighties, it creates Hiropon Factory, become today the Kaikai Kiki Corporation. The company creates logos, Tee-shirts, reasons for clothing, all kinds of derivative products.

Regarded as one of the leaders of the néo-pop Japan board known as Superflat, he asserts the heritage of Warhol and the Pop American art , while analyzing the way in which the Japanese Art can find an autonomy vis-a-vis the Western model.

Takashi Murakami coordinates also exposures showing works of young artists of its country. Its activity of police chief of exposure is for him quite as important as its work of artist. When it organizes an exposure, it each time tries to collect the aspects to emphasize those of Japanese specificity. It tries to highlight the point of meeting between culture Japanese and Western, it wants to show aspects of its culture which the Westerners hate or do not include/understand. Chiho Aoshima, young artist Japan ease, is thus sponsored by Murakami , of which it shares the style.
