Takashi Miike

Takashi Miike (), born the August 24th 1960 in Yao, small town close to Ōsaka, with the Japan, is a Réalisateur Japan prolific and discussed board. It realized more than fifty works for the Théâtre, the Cinéma, or the Télévision since its beginnings in 1991. For the only years 2001 and 2002, Miike is credited with the realization of fourteen productions.

Biography

It enters at the 18 years age to the Academy off Broadcasting and Film of Yokohama and out of graduate spring. It starts by working for television, in particular by carrying out several telefilms.

During the Years 1990, it carries out many films which leave directly in video, called in Japan the V-Cinema . Thanks to this one, it will be able to carry out many films, which will require little budget.

It with a film of Yakuza S, Is freed from Shinjuku , realized in 1994, that it is made famous. It carries out several other films on the yakuzas, of which the trilogy of the Dead gold Alive .

It is very prolific, since having realized more than 50 films in a little more than ten years. Many of its films can be, at first sight, classified in a specific kind (film of yakuza, science fiction, of horror, comedy…), but these classifications can never take into account the entirety of film and the mixture of the kinds is frequent. Its realization is very technical and rich of effects.

It is mainly known to carry out a cinema where violence like the mild nutter or the Fantastique emerge out of conventions and where many Tabou S is transgressed, without all the conditioning of the spectator who frequently takes place in these circumstances.

This décomplexée attitude the fact thus of seeming a violent, removed from rim and provocative scenario writer whereas it carries out also many contemplative and poetic films such as The Bird People in Clouded or the Melody of misfortune .

Those are however noticed by the public and the media which, conditioned to see (or show) only certain violences approached in manner Stéréotypé E, become hypersensitive with forms or modes of violence leaving the diagrams agreed by common morals.

Controversies

The style of Miike is often regarded by its detractors as misogynist, although the female characters of Miike generally preserve the capacity, that they use to reverse the established principles of the Patriarcat Japan board (for example in the Film Audition (1999) or in Visitor Q (2001).

One of its most discussed films is without question the ultra-violent one Ichi the Killer (2001), adapted Manga éponyme with in the main role Tadanobu Asano in sadomasochistic Yakuza . Extreme violence was initially employed to promote the Film: during the first international one with the International Toronto Film Festival in 2001, the public accepted bags to vomit encrusted with the logo of film as promotional object (a scene of particularly extravagant slaughter puts in scene a character which slices a man into two of the head to the feet, as well as the face of another man, who slips along a close wall).

However, the British Board off Film Classification refused to authorize the exit of film not-censured in Great Britain, had regard of the intense level of sexual violence towards the women. Several people regarded film as incoherent, just like they had recently authorized the Film Irréversible (2002), which contains a scene of Viol nine minutes, particularly violent. To HongKong, 15 minutes of film were cut. With the the United States, the film was projected not-censured (although MPAA classified it Unrated ). A DVD not-censured left with the the Benelux countries.

In 2005, Miike was invited to carry out an episode the series of anthology the Masters of the horror. The series, which contains episodes carried out per many great names of the cinema of horror such as John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper or Dario Argento, was supposed to leave to the realizers a relative creative freedom and tiny restrictions concerning the violent or sexual contents (certain violent scenes were modified, as in the episode Jennifer carried out by Dario Argento). However, when the cabled chain Showtime obtained the rights on the series, the episode carried out by Miike the House of the maltreatment (original title: Imprint ) was believed apparently too much and disturbing for the chain. Showtime cancelled the diffusion of this episode, even after negotiations; the film was however retained to be reproduced on the box DVD of the series. Mick Garris, creator and executive producer of the series, described the episode like incredible, but difficult to look at, even for me… it is definitively the most violent film which I ever saw .

Thus the House of the maltreatment was still not diffused on a chain televised with the the United States, it was diffused on the Bravo chain with the the United Kingdom, on FX in Argentine, Bolivia, with the Chile, in Colombia, in Costa Rica, in Ecuador, with the El Salvador, the Guatemala, the Honduras, the Mexico, the Nicaragua, the Panama, the Paraguay, the Peru, in Dominican Republic, Uruguay, with the Venezuela and in France. Anchor Bay Entertainment, which ensures the diffusion of box DVD of the series the Masters of the horror the the United States, left the House the maltreatment in DVD September 26th 2006.
