Taiyuan

Taiyuan (太原; Pinyin: Tàiyuán; old name Jinyang ) is the capital of the province Shanxi in China. The agglomeration counted close to: 3414000 inhabitants in 2004. It is an industrial and commercial center important in the north of China.

History

Jinyang (晋阳) is the old name of this town of Taiyuan . Also called Bingzhou through the ages, Jinyang was set up in year 491 before our era at the time of the Period of Springs and the Falls. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zhao at the beginning of the Period of the kingdoms combatants as well as the capital of several States at the time of the centuries which followed. At the time of the dynasty Sui, it was the third city in importance in all the country after Chang' year and Luoyang. It was also the birthplace of the dynasty Tang as one of the three capitals of the empire. Jinyang was destroyed in the year 979 by the Song armies, but was rebuilt in 982, then famous Songcheng. It was through the ages a strengthened city occupying an enviable military position.

Jinyang was famous Taiyuan during the dynasty Qing.

  • the county of Qingxu - 清徐县 Qīngxú Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Yangqu - 阳曲县 Yángqǔ Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Loufan - 娄烦县 Lóufán Xiàn .
