Taivassalo

Taivassalo ( Tövsala in Swedish) is a municipality south-west of the Finland, in the province of Western Finland and the area of Finland of South-west.

It is located in full heart of the Finnish Archipel, the village being located at approximately 50 km of the provincial capital Turku by the road.

The foundation of the community is largely mythical. In 1155, the bishop Henri d' Uppsala unloads in the area with the head of the first Swedish crusade . If the things will finish tragically for him a few months later (see Köyliö), it évangélise several villages of which one would be current Taivassalo. The common one thus celebrated in brass band its 850 years in 2005 in spite of the historical little of evidence.

A few years after a church out of wooden is built, and the stone church is built by stages between the end of the 13th century and the 15th century. Taivassalo becomes then a peaceful community, largely dependant on the fishing and trade transbaltic.

The communes bordering are Kustavi in the west, Uusikaupunki in north, Vehmaa in the North-East, but also beyond arm of the sea Askainen with south-east and Velkua in the south.
