Taintrux

Taintrux is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.

The inhabitants are called Meuris ( cockchafers in local Patois) following a legend.

Geography

The commune of Taintrux is one of vastest department, where the forests of Sapin S and woodland pines dominate. It is sprinkled by the Taintroué , small affluent left bank of the Meurthe, which leaves it in north with the altitude of 344 Mr. the culminating point is to 760 m, close to the Roche of Anozel . The habitat is very dispersed and certain hamlets, like Rougiville and Chevry , compete with the center. It is also on the territory of the commune that is born the Mortagne which moves towards Brouvelieures.

Taintrux is located at 8 km of the Saint-Dié-of-Vosges, at 5 km of Saulcy-on-Meurthe by the collar of Anozel (450 m) and at 11 km of Corcieux by the collar of Vanémont (519 m).

Taintrux would mean “dyed brook”, the sandstone giving a beautiful color pink-red to Taintroué at the time of the rains.

History

Like many nearby villages, Taintrux was devastated by bands of plunderers and deserters during the Guerre Thirty Year old.

Engagements crystallized in August and September 1914 there after Saint-Dié had been occupied.

The maquis of Taintrux revolted in June 1944 following the example that of Corcieux. Repression was bloody: several men of the maquis were shot of which the son of the mayor of the time.
