Tainan

Tainan (Chinese: 台南; Hanyu pinyin : Táinán ) is a town of Taiwan.

The town of Tainan this locates at the south-west of Taiwan. In May 2004, the city counted: 751902 inhabitants.

Tainan extends on a surface from 175,64 km ² and has one population density of: 4281 inhabitants with the square kilometer.

Tainan is famous for its many temples and the richness of its local kitchen.

Districts

The city of Tainan is divided into six districts: Anping, Annan, and the districts East, central, Southern and Northern West.

The district of Annan constituted in the beginning the town of Year-Shun which was amalgamated with the town of Tainan in 1946. The districts exchange and West were amalgamated in 2004 to become the central Western district.

Airport

The Aéroport of Tainan is the third domestic airport of Taiwan after those of Taipei Songshan and Kaohsiung. The tracks are divided with the military air base which shelters a squadron of hunters Ching-Kuo.

History

Tainan is regarded as one of the oldest cities of Taiwan. Its history began with the establishment from a Dutch port with Tayoan (source of the name of Taiwan and now called Anping) in 1624.

In 1661 Koxinga took again the control of the island and made of Tainan the capital of Taiwan. In 1684, the Dynastie Qing undertook the conquest of the island and establishes in Tainan the Taiwan Fu (government of Taiwan) which was the first official local government of Taiwan. When the island became a province in 1885, it was famous Tainan Fu . Tainan was also called Fu-Cheng (“quoted of the government”).
