Tailor
The tailor (male name) is a Artisan which makes Vêtement S for men. For ladies' garments, one will use rather the term of Couturier/Couturière.
The Master-tailor is a tailor who trains one or more apprentice (S) - tailor (S) in his own workshop.
Starting from the Raw material that the fabric or fabric constitutes, which a cutter on the basis of model or owner (, or gauge), the tailor will have beforehand cut out then carries out by Couture the assembly of the various cut out parts.
Nb. The tailor is not necessarily the cutter: these are two trades which can be distinct. In general, the owner (or model, or gauge) - carried out by one (E) model maker - is used by the cutter which traces with chalk contours of the owner on fabric, before cutting out the fabric parts, which will be then assembled by the tailor (or the couturier/la dressmaker).
This owner can correspond to standard forms or an exclusive model, and can be defined or adjusted starting from the measurements taken on the future carrier of clothing " on mesures". A preparatory stage consists in assembling these parts temporarily (“put at the test”) to check of it the good adjustment thanks to a fitting on the person intended to wear clothing.
The industry of the Confection developed considerably as from the XIXe century, leading to a marginalisation of the trade of tailor, which belongs today essentially to the Industrie of the luxury.
