Taikosama

Taikosama is the name of a Japanese leader of the end of the 16th century and beginning of the 17th century which appears in the Western sources of the time. According to these sources, Taikosama would have reached the Shogun In 1585. Sometimes it is even qualified emperor .

This name does not have exact correspondence in the Japanese history. It could be a question of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, “ Shogun of transition ” from 1582 to 1598. Indeed, in 1592, Hideyoshi Toyotomi took the title of Taikō , honorary title given to an imperial regent ( Kampaku ) of semi-retirement, which always exerts the supervision of its successor.

It could also be a question of Tokugawa Ieyasu, which became shogun in 1603, after a long vacancy of this load.
