Taifa de Denia

The Royaume of Denied , or the Taïfa de Denia , was a kingdom Musulman whose center was the city of Dénia. It appeared in 1010, after the bursting of the Califat of Cordoue at the end of the Xe century and the beginning of the XIe century.

In 1076, it was conquered by the Taïfa of Saragossa.

History

Taïfa of Dénia (Al-Dàniyya) was created in 1010, by the slave Al-Amiri Al-Muwaffaq, after the disintegration of the Caliphate of Cordoue. It was the first kingdom to be declared independent of Cordoue. The Moslem Kingdom of Denied was small; it included/understood some very fertile areas and of the cities among which Bairén, Orba, Altea, Callosa, Sagra, Cocentaina and Bocairent were.

In 1011, it was the first taïfa to beat currency, in a house of the currency in current Elda.

In 1015, with the head of a powerful fleet, Al-Muwaffaq seized the Balearic Islands and the island of Sardinia on which it maintained its sovereignty during one year (1015-1016).

During the following years, its squadron based with Dénia and by using dampings of the Balearic Islands, carried out various incursions on the coasts of Gènes, Pisa, the Toscane and the Lombardy.

On ground, it intervened in the particular fights with the slaves what enabled him to control Valence during two years (1018-1020). Towards the south, it conquered Orihuela and extended its kingdom until el Segura.

With died Al-Muwaffaq in 1045, his/her oldest son Ali Iqbál Al-Dawla, born from a Christian mother, seized the capacity. It could maintain the legacy of his father during thirty and one years.

In 1058, it conceded a privilege whereby it put the Mozarabe S of his kingdoms of Denied and Majorque under jurisdiction of the bishop of Barcelona, by giving to perpetuity all the churches of the Balearic Islands and of Denied with the cathedral of the Santa Cruz there Santa Eulalia of Barcelona and with the bishop Gilabert inhabitant of Barcelona.

Taïfa de Denia was conquered by the king Al-Muqtadir in 1076, becoming part of the Taifa of Saragossa. The insular territories formed the Taïfa de Majorque.
