Tahmasp II
Tahmasp II (1704? - 1740) was one of the last Shah Safavide of Iran (1722 - 1732).
Tahmasp was the son of Hussein {{Ier}}, then Shah of Iran. When Hussein was forced to abdicate by the Afghan , carried out by Mahmud Ghilzai, in 1722, prince Tahmasp wanted to recover his throne. He flees with Tabriz where he establishes a government. He gained the support of the Moslem sunnites of the the Caucasus, as well as several tribes of which that of Afshar, then under the cut of the future Master of Iran, Nadir Shah. Tahmasp as gained the recognition of at the same time the Russia and the Ottoman Empire, both anxious as the other can gain influence in Iran. In 1729, Tahmasp had taken again the control of the majority of the country. Several years after its death, the Safavide dynasty, become weak, was reversed by Nadir Shah. It is under its reign that the Russia starts War Russo-Iranian woman (1722 - 1723) to extend her influence in the areas of Caspian Sea and of the the Caucasus of the South.
