Pierre Mendès France said of Tahar Ben Ammar: Its objective was primarily patriotic. A patriotism which was not yet of mode at that time because, easy farmer, it could have been unaware of the problems of its least favoured compatriots and have been put up with the colonial mode. A patriotism which could to only attract the mistrust and the hostility of “dominating him” and to expose it to vindication coloniale.
