Tage

The Tage is a Fleuve which takes its source in Spain, crosses the Portugal where it throws in the Atlantic Ocean with Lisbon.

It is the longest river of Iberian peninsula (1007 km). It sprinkles in particular Abrantes and Tolède, where it is said that the blacksmiths used his water to soak the steel of the swords of the Spanish knights.

A legend affirms that Héraclès would have traced of its sword the bed of Tage around Tolède.

  • Daghi or Taghi , meaning good fishing (phenician).

The Lisboètes call its estuary Mer of straw (or Mar da palha ), because of its color in end-of-day, when the setting sun makes scintillate of vast yellow this stretch of water between Lisbon and Almada.
