Tadorne of Australia

The tadorne of Australia ( Tadorna tadornoides ) belongs to the family of the Anatidé S.

Description

It measures 55 to 73 cm length and weighs 1.3 to 1.5 kg. The male has a plumage with black dominant coloring with green reflections, with a chest grooves, a white collar on the level of the neck and a head dark green. The lower part of the wings is white. The female, definitely smaller, is characterized only by one white area around the eyes and of the nozzle.

Distribution and habitat

One meets this species in two different areas: a small colony in the West and a large colony in the state of Victoria, overflowing in North on the News-Wales-of-South and in the South on the Tasmanie. She attends the water parts (lakes, marsh, ponds,…) in open medium.

Food

It nourishes primarily growths of grass. Incidentally, in water it nourishes watery invertebrates or plants.

Reproduction

The nest is generally placed in a hole of tree. The female lays 5 to 14 eggs which it broods 30 to 34 days.
