Biography
Taddeo Zuccaro was a painter of the Roman school. Wire of an artist, named Oltaviano, it had for first Master Pompeo da Fano, then it studied under Giacomone de Faenza; it came then to Rome, with his Federico brother.
Very young person it will take for Polydore models of Caravage and Perin del Vaga, it chooses a style of the Maniérisme. It spread in Rome a considerable quantity of tables, goods, poor and even very poor, at the point, that the retailers output compositions of Taddeo Zucchero, at all costs.
When he did not neglect his style, this painter showed facility however; but it was spoiled by some carelessness popular, pleasant besides for those which do not seek the rise in the ideas and the characters. Its paintings offer like collections of portraits. The tètes are neat, the naked ones are not nor-frequent nor manners, as it then was wanted; in the school florentine. Clothing was properly of the time, as well as the ornaments and the movement of the beard and the hair. He imitated old this manner, to make leave the fabric some figures to half-length, as if they were on a lower level, or close to a place more, high.
What us, want to express finds in the apotheosis of Homère by Ingres. That is explained very well because it is or of the supporting characters or the scientists come later in the order from the time, and who group around a kind, of sovereign. Taddeo often repeats the same aspects and its own features. It is varied even less in the feet, the hands, in the folds, of draperies; and necessarily this defect removes some to him, good taste which awakes the attention.
Its most famous works are the frescos of the castle of Caprarola. One has them engraved in 1748, and it appeared of it a description by Sebastiani, Rome, 1741; The author, represented the facts of the life of the Farnese which were made famous in the military career, or which could deserve other glories. The foreigners do not cease going to visit, close to Viterbe, this beautiful and admirable monument of the genius of Vignole, embellished rather with dignity by Taddeo Zucchero. This artist died in September 1566 precisely at the 37 years age, like Raphaël. One saw his bust in the Rotunda (the the Pantheon ), close to that of Raphaël. The cardinal Consalvi made them transport in 1822 in Capitole. Pierre-Jean Mariette, in her Abecedario , T. 6, p. 161, indicates various tables painted by this artist and representative of the subjects of holiness.
It in particular painted frescos with the castle of Caprarola (engraved in 1748), a Virgin in the church St - Sixth of Mantoue and the Conversion from Saint Paul to San Marcello…
