Taddeo Gaddi (or Gadda), painter and mosaïste Florentin, born in 1259, died in 1332 (?). The information given by Vasari on its life and its works is rather confused. He undoubtedly worked in Florence and Rome with the mosaïstes of the end of the 13th century, Andrea Tafi, Cimabue, Torriti, Rusuti. Vasari allots the busts of Prophets to him whom one sees inside the baptistry of Florence, in the zone located below the windows, and the Couronnement of the Virgin who surmounts, inside the Dome, the principal door. This work of a rather sharp color, although overloaded of gold, recalls by its heavy and hard style the four compositions, also in mosaic, which accompany on the frontage by Holy-Marie-Major, in Rome, the celestial Court of Rusuti: they are four Stories of the foundation of the basilique.
He is regarded as most famous of the pupils of Giotto di Bondone.
