Tadayoshi Ashikaga (ja 足利直義, Ashikaga Tadayoshi ) (1306 - 1352) was a general Japan board of the time Nanboku-chō and a associate of his older brother Takauji Ashikaga, the first shogun of Muromachi.

Biography

After having supported the emperor Go-Daigo at the time of the Restoration of Kemmu, Tadayoshi is named governor ( kami ) of the Province of Sagami (which currently forms part of the Préfecture of Kanagawa). In 1335, during the Nakasendai rebellion led by Tokiyuki Hōjō (death in 1353), Tadayoshi kills the son of Go-Daigo, the prince Morinaga. Being turned over against Go-Daigo, Tadayoshi and Takauji put on the throne a rival emperor in 1336 and found the Shogunat de Muromachi in 1338. Dividing the capacity between them, Takauji deals with the businesses military and Tadayoshi the legal affairs and administrative.

In 1350, however, because of a conflict with the assistant of Takauji Kō No Moronao, Tadayoshi rebels, and occupies Kyōto in 1351 (see the article Kannō No joran). After a short reconciliation between the two brothers, Tadayoshi flees with Kamakura, but Takauji continues there with an army. In March 1352, shortly after a new reconciliation, Tadayoshi dies suddenly, probably by poisoning.
