Tadashi Abe

Tadashi Abe (1926 - 1984) was the pioneer of the Aïkido in Europe.

Tadashi Abe was born in 1926. Its family was close to the Imperial Court and his/her father who had mines in Korea reserved part of his richnesses to the Aikikai. During the Second world war he was kamikaze in the Japanese marine and had his safety at the end of the war.

He began the Aïkido in 1942 and became Uchi deshi. He will be named 6th daN and will be sent in Europe in 1952 with for mission of earlier continuing the work of establishment of the Aïkido begun one year with Minoru Mochizuki. In France, it will be helped in its task by Mikinosuke Kawaishi, which there had just introduced the Judo. This last advised to him to codify the movements in series to adapt the training of the Aïkido to the Western spirit.

Considering its mission accomplished, Tadashi Abe turned over to the Japan in 1960 but disappointed by the evolution of the Aïkido, he refused his rank of 7th daN and decided to separate from the Aikikai.

Tadashi Abe died the November 23rd 1984.
