Tadao Andō (安藤忠雄,) born has Ōsaka the September 13rd 1941, is a Architecte Japan board.

The influence of Le Corbusier

It decides to learn architecture, but as an autodidact, which is extremely rare in Japan. It buys books in the secondhand booksellers and is fascinated by a dedicated work with Le Corbusier.

From 1963 to 1968, he travels. Without much of money, it takes the means of transport without ticket, it goes much to foot naked. In 1965, Tadao Andō decides to return visit to Le Corbusier. It takes the boat with Yokohama, then gains Beijing or it takes the Trans-Siberian one. It arrives at Paris, a few days after the death of Corbusier. He visits his buildings, the Swiss House, in the University residence, the Villa Savoye, with Poissy, half in ruin. With Marseilles, he visits the radiant Cité of Marseilles.

An international recognition

In 1985 it receives the Médaille Alvar Aalto. In June 1995, Tadao Andō is the third Japanese to receive the Prix Pritzker of Architecture, left Nobel Prize of Architecture, two years after Fumihiko Maki rewarded in 1993. Kenzō Tange had received it in 1987. He is prize winner of the Prix of Kyōto in 2002.

Deeply marked by the Earthquake of Kōbe, occurred in January of the same year, and which had touched in particular the district of its first achievements, it offers all its price to the orphans of the city. It collects funds to improve quality of the rebuilding, because the cheap dwellings of the city, built with the contempt of the code of practice, were particularly fatal.
