Tacna is a city of the south of the Peru, capital of the Région of Tacna. It is located in the desert of Atacama, in the valley of the Río Caplina. Tacna is a very active city commercially, being located only at 35 km in the north of the border Chile enne.

Tacna was in the history of the Peru one of the most patriotic cities. Many streets and monuments concern of the heroes of the fight for the independence of the country (1821 - 1824) and of the Guerre of the Pacific (1879 - 1883). The inhabitants of the city are called tacneños .

Its population is assembled roughly to 280.000 inhabitants.

Not far from there, the cave decorated with Toquepala is located whose superb parietal paintings are dated of more than 10.000 years.
