The Tachikoma is a character of the Manga Ghost in the Shell .

In 2030, the limit between the man and the machine are fuzzy: indeed, genetically modified and truffles of implants, the characters whom one calls from now on Cyborg are spread in the whole company. They are the human ones of which the brain and the conscience (the ghost ) was transplanted in an artificial body, but there exist also robots equipped with ghosts artificial (in particular some androïdes).

Tachikomas are intelligent robots, with the service of a troop of elite anti-terrorist: the Section 9. They appear in the series TV ( Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex ) and are the heroes of the humorous series Ghost in the Shell: Tachikoma Days .

The character

Tachikoma is a unit robot-like and cybernetic developped at the point and attached to section 9. With the shape of armor-plated spider, the tachikoma is a genuine small urban tank of intervention. Employed by section 9, the tachikoma is a robot of support but can also fill of multiple spots of protection or transport of personnel because of his autonomy. Indeed the main feature of the tachikoma is to have a very advanced artificial intelligence. The old mental one of a tachikoma is evaluated with a child of ten years, but its fickleness make a frightening combatant of it. It is able to develop a thermal and optical camouflage, like all the members of section 9. Equipped with small wheels, it can also make jumps, climb almost vertical walls thanks to its faculty of launching cables. The tachikoma has an armament which can vary according to the missions; a small gun, a machine-gun…

There are a model of tachikoma, but several tachikoma. They have each one a clean personality, but share between them all the data which they receive, from which they evolve/move, them " ressenti" . During the season the 2 (2nd GIG) tachikoma will reappear for some missions, but their capacity of " was extended; hacking" network. They became also frightening hackers, able to circumvent sophisticated protections, or to pirate computing systems.
