The table tennis handisport is a Sport derived from the Table tennis which is practiced by handicapped people.

Rules

The table tennis handisport follows the rules of the table tennis defined by the International federation of table tennis. Some modifications were made for the users of wheel chairs, but not for the players upright.

Each match comprises five handles (usually called sets ). The player who marks in first 11 points gains the sleeve. Gaining is that which gained the greatest number of handles.

The table tennis handisport can be practiced upright or in wheel chair. The matches can be played into simple or double.

Classification of the handicaps

The athletes motor disabilities are classified in 10 categories according to their functionalities. The lower the number is, the more the sportsmen have evil to be driven. The athletes of categories 1 to 5 play in wheel chair, the athletes of categories 6 to 10 play upright. The pongist can fix the racket at his hand if it cannot hold it.

The athletes who have a intellectual handicap are classified in category 11.

Competition

The table tennis is an official sport paralympic since the paralympic Jeux of Rome in 1960, which are the paralympic first Jeux to be organized. With the paralympic Plays of Sydney in 2000, the table tennis comprised a category for the defective intellectuals, which was removed in 2004.
