T 2 AL 2013 to 2043 and 2044

The group of the engines-tender T2 is composed of two series quite distinct from Locomotives to vapor built for the imperial network from Alsace-Lorraine (EL) from 1874 with 1876. The T2 2013 to 2043 had a provision of Essieu 120 and the T2 2044 had a provision of Essieu 030.

T2 2013 to 2043

Of a very particular type, these machines had been designed to circulate in the influence of the industrial and mining centers where the curves were of weak ray and the light track equipment. Conceived at the origin for the Railroad of Berg and Marche by its engineer Mr. Stambke , they were equipped with very brought closer coupled axles engine and bissel before in order to reducing to the maximum the rigid footing. They had moreover a compartment with water installed on the boiler shell (standard English known as " saddle-tank") who conferred a rather strange silhouette to them. On this private network, fifty-three specimens circulated there.

Strongly interested, the imperial network of Alsace-Lorraine (EL) made build a group of thirty machines ( D4 180 to 194 , D6 355 to 366 and finally D7 367 to 370 ) in 1874 by the Maschinenfabrik of Karlsruhe (Bade, Germany). The new classification installation in 1906 placed them all in the new series T2 by numbering them of 2013 to 2043 .

The first reforms of these machines intervened starting from 1908. With its creation in 1919, the railway network of Alsace-Lorraine (AL) inherited only three of them, the 2030 , 2032 and 2040 . They were quickly reformed in 1921.

The whole of the series circulated mainly in the area of Thionville, in the middle of the Lorraine mining country.

Description

These engines had a motor two cylinders, simple expansion. The ordering of distribution was of type “Stephenson”, the cylinders were fixed on a false external frame. The sand pits, low-size, were laid out between the coupled axles but a sand box located on the hearth made it possible to fill with the hand the sand pits.

T2 2044

Quite as particular but of the class of the 030 T , the T2 2044 bearing the name of " Fasolt" (to give names to the engines was a current practice in this company until 1912) had been built on an experimental basis by the company Vulkan Werke of Stettin in 1876 and was registered D7 451 by the EL. It was intended to tow heavy loads with a very progressive effort thanks to its toothed gearing on the median Essieu. Rods transmitted the movement to the other axles. Its speed was limited to 36 km/h.

Such a system, very fragile, could not be maintained. In 1905, one removed the gears and the movement was transmitted to the median axle by vertical rods. The machine was registered in 1906 T2 2044 and was reformed in 1909.

Description

This machine was system " Gründ" and it had two cylinders with simple expansion. The distribution was done by outside and was of the type “with slide of Allan”. The capacity of the compartments was of 5 m ³ of water and 1 ton of coal. It also had of a dome vapor with internal regulator and a sand pit of great dimension.
