THX Ltd. is a company founded in 1983 by George Lucas and developed by Tomlinson Holman for Lucasfilm Ltd.. Integrated at the origin in Lucasfilm Ltd., THX Ltd. since 2002 became an independent company.

THX is an insurance company quality of the systems of restitution of the image and sound. THX defines standards and checks that the cinemas and the electronic material general public is in conformity with these standards.

THX is the abbreviation of Tom Holman eXperiment , of the name of a sound engineer of Lucasfilm Ltd., but it is also a wink with first film of George Lucas, THX 1138 , which itself drew its title from the phone number of George Lucas (THX-1138).
