TG4

TG4 ( Teilifís Gaeilge Ceathair in Irish) is a public Television channel Irish, which diffuses its programs in Irish language (Gaelic of Ireland).

Dependant on RTÉ since its creation, TG4 is held since April 1st, 2007 to 100% by Telifis Na Gaeilge, public company independent. Its incomes come from the budget allocated by gouvernenment (30 million euros in 2007), from publicity and the sponsors.

Programs

Since its independence with respect to RTÉ, TG4 continues to receive free a complement of programme of the 365 hour old latter, as specified per annum in Broadcasting Act of 2001.

TG4 with the exclusiveness in direct for a great number of GAA competitions, for some football games of League off Ireland, for the Tournament of Wimbledon and for the Tour de France.

Diffusion

TG4 is diffused in Ireland by hertzian, satellite way and by cable, but also in Northern Ireland.

In the beginning, TnaG could be collected in Northern Ireland only by the frontier ones. The agreement of Belfast signed in 1998, envisaged to make TnaG available to Northern Ireland, following the greatest recognition granted to the Irish language. In March 2005, TG4 started to emit since the transmitter of Divided close to Belfast, following an agreement between the Irish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the ministry for Northern Ireland. However, because of surchargement on the wavebands, only a basic signal power can be transmitted and the reception is still inalienable in many sectors, even in certain districts of Belfast. The chain is also available to the subscribers of Sky DIGITAL since April 18th, 2005, and on the cable since February 2007.
