History
Its construction began in May 1993 to replace decayed the Boston Garden. Just like its predecessor, TD Banknorth Garden is built with the top of North Station, one of the principal stations of Boston. Initially baptized Shawnut Center , the arena changed name before even its inauguration. Because of fusion between the Shawnut banks and Fleet, the enclosure, which cost $160 million dollars, FleetCenter with its opening was named the September 30th 1995. In 1995, FleetBoston bought the rights of name $30 million dollars for 15 years.April 1st 2004, the bank Fleet is repurchased by the group Bank off America. Rather than to pay to rename the FleetCenter (only one name change had been to negotiate during construction), Bank off America prefers to be left the contract with Delaware North Companies, owner of the arena. With the beginning of the year 2005, while always seeking a long-term sponsor, the FleetCenter proposed biddings on EBay to sell rights of name over one day. February 10th with the March 13rd, FleetCenter had more than 30 different names. The net value of $150,633.22 recovered during the bidding was given to charity works of the area of Boston. The March 3rd 2005, the rights are thus sold with another sponsor, TD Banknorth, an American subdivision of the Banque Toronto-Dominion, which decides to name the enclosure TD Banknorth Garden , with the hope to recreate the emotional tie which the Bostonians with their Garden maintained. The name officially became TD Banknorth Garden on July 1st 2005.
Since its inauguration in 1995, more than 24 million people came to the TD Banknorth Garden to see playing the famous tenants who are the Bruins and the Celtics, as well as concerts of world famous, sporting events, wrestling, and much more still. Each year, Garden organizes up to 200 public demonstrations and accommodates more than 3,5 million visitors.
The TD Banknorth Garden is an arena entirely equipped with three private restaurants (Banners, Legends and The Premium Club restaurants), 90 continuations, 1100 seats of club, and a video central display board (Garden HDX) several million dollars.
During the summer 2006, the TD Banknorth Garden underwent a change of complete look. The addition of The Premium Club' S SportsDeck and The Boardroom, of new concessions and shops, a new bar in level 4 heading The Hub and the restoration of the continuations are among the many improvements carried out with construction. It is during this period that the new display board, Garden HDX, with its giant screens high-definition was installed.
TD Banknorth Garden is one of the three arenas NBA (Target Center of Mineapolis and Amway Arena of Orlando) with a ground in parquet floor. The Celtics are the best known ones for the tradition of the parquet floor.
