T-54

Presentation

In 1947 appeared this new Soviet tank . It derived from the T-44, of which it took again the frame but by adapting a new broader turret to it being able to embark a gun of 100mm. If the T-44 had known a confidential production, it was not the same for the new tank which entered very quickly in mass production to take the changing of its ancestor the T-34/85. It became with its derivatives the standard armoured tank of the communist bloc and its fitting, the prototype of the Soviet armoured tanks . The suspension included/understood five large wheels of road, without tread roller, characterized by a space between the first and second wheels. The armament, in addition to the gun, included/understood a coaxial machine-gun of 7,62 mm, one of glacis and anti-aircraft of 12,7 mm.
The vehicle evolved/moved gradually, in particular on the level of the turret which by a gradual evolution becomes of hemispherical form. The armament was equipped with a stabilizer, initially vertical then on the two axes, the anti-aircraft machine-gun ends up disappearing. In 1958, a version, remotorized with V-55 of 580 horses and equipped with a protection NBC of model PAZ and with an again redrawn turret incorporating a floor, accepted T-55 designation. The capacity in ammunition and fuel was increased, autonomy passed to 500 km (715 with two releasable tanks assembled to the back) and the number of shell to 43 instead of 34.
In 1963, the T-55A was equipped with a complete protection PAZ/FVU which was characterized by an outgrowth of the hatchways of the crew. The Char T-62 succeeded to him.

Polish production

  • T-54AD version of command with capacity in ammunition preserved and radios placed in a small outgrowth of the turret.

Chinese production

For its own needs and export (Africa and Asia), China developed many derivatives of T-54.

type 59

China initially produced a simplified version of the T-54A without stabilizer of shooting nor apparatus of night vision. It was then modified, rearmed and equipped with an active shielding (Standard 59/II, Type 59/III has and Standard 59/III). There exist also versions of command (improved radio operator equipment) and of breakdown service. Type 59 are used by China, Congo, the North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan (Standard 59M), Tanzania, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Principal alternatives of Type 59

  • Standard 59 construction under license of the Standard T-54A
  • 59-II rearmament with a gun of 105 mm, probably derived from British L-7.

Standard 62

It is the version of reduced size (21 tons) army by one 85 mm. It is in service in the APL (of which the navy) and was exported in Albania, in Bangladesh, in Congo, in North Korea, in Mali, in Sudan, in Tanzania and in Vietnam.

type 69

These tanks of Type 59 are improved. It have thus of a system of night vision modernized, a NBC protection and a laser telemetry. In service in Bangladesh, in Burma, in China, in Iraq, in Iran, in Pakistan and Zimbabwe, Types 69/79 (gun of 105mm), they were declined in:
  • Standard 69-I : Optics IR, laser telemetry, kit NBC and gun improved with crest gate of smoke moved behind.
  • Standard 69-II : new gun of 100mm.
  • Standard 69-IIB : VERSION EXPORT OF the Standard PRECEDENT
  • 69C
