Tōshōgū

Tōshōgū () is the name given to a type of sanctuary shintō dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the shôgunat to the Japan. The name of Tōshōgū is based on the posthumous title which was conferred on Tokugawa Ieyasu by the imperial court, " Tosho Dai Gongen".

One finds Tōshōgū sanctuaries a little everywhere in Japan (more than one hundred) but most famous is that of Nikkō () in the Préfecture of Tochigi.

Tōshōgū de Nikkō

It is one of the tourist destinations most popular in Japan.

The son of Ieyasu, the second Shogun Hidetada, ordered the construction of Tōshōgū de Nikkō. Later, the third shogun Iemitsu made increase and embellish the temple.

Other Tōshōgū famous

Tōshōgū of the Park of Ueno in Tōkyō is also rather known. Another, in Kunozan in the Prefecture of Shizuoka, competes with Nikkō in the field of the splendor of the decoration.
