Tétraodon
The vernacular Nom tétraodon (of the old Greek will tetra = four and odous = tooth) gathers some Poisson S of the family of the Tetraodontidae (For the exact list of these species, to see the section Espèces).
The vernacular Nom Tétraodon gathers species of several kinds. Not to confuse with the kind Tetraodon (the distinction enters both is made by the Acute accent French of the vernacular name and the italic of the kind).
Specificities
They are mainly known for two reasons:
- They are very toxic and are responsible for Tétrodotoxisme which causes each year of many deaths, in particular to the Japan where their consumption is very appraisal.
- They are able to fill of water or air when they are worried, from where their fish nickname swell or fish sphere.
- They do not have prickles, which distinguishes them from the Diodontidae which have some.
