Tété

Tété is a Chanteur French, born with Dakar, the Senegal, the July 25th 1975, of a West-Indian mother and a father Senegalese. Tété draws of its African origins its first name, which would mean “the guide” in wolof. In 1977, he moves with Bordeaux to migrate 3 years later to Saint-Dizier, in Haute-Marne, in the east of France. He will pass there most of his youth He is then rocked by large the jazzmen and the pop one the Beatles which listening his/her mother.

First and short approach practice music at the 9 years age when it is registered in school to learn the Solfège and the Violon. Not being able to choose the Guitar, there remains only one year there.

True upheaval for Tété with adolescence at the time of the arrival in France of the Hip-hop: Rap Attitude, NTM, IAM, Clicked It, Method Man, Busta Rhymes…

At 16 years, it finds a few times immobilized by a leg foundation of concrete. At this point in time it is tested with the Guitare. Little time is enough to adopt the instrument and to create its first compositions inspired by Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Lenny Kravitz but also Serge Gainsbourg and Queen. Two years later, he discovers Keziah Jones: it is the detonator. This revelation encourages it to be shown at the great day while occurring in the coffees with gradually the desire for making its trade of it.

Vat “éco” out of pocket, it chooses the scientific sector of the FAC of Nancy. In addition to the studies, Tété benefits especially from these 4 years to multiply the musical experiments. He discovers the collective play through the group Mohonese Be Honest before being exerted in solo in Twin Peaks. He interprets there his Anglo-Saxon references like his first compositions in French English then. He also takes courses of song but since, “he learns with désapprendre”.

Arrive then, for the majority of people, the moment to seek work. But there is not the objective of Tété which prefers to start to play full-time in the streets and the bars. The best means of having time to practice the guitar being to make of it its trade, Tété starts with one year of voluntary wandering to be tested in public around Nancy and occasionally with Strasbourg.

After a considerable local success, Tété decides to make some as much with Paris as from 1998. It is thus always in solo that this self-educated guitarist makes his way by foaming the coffees and restaurants, of the hat to the small seals. The quality of its performances and the effectiveness of the word of mount offered a growing public to him. He is then noticed by a musician who places his modest studio at the disposal. After 3 days of recording, it leaves there in 1999 first maximum own-produced containing " already; the desires " , " Brave New World " and " Dodeline ". FNAC, interested, decides to distribute it.

2000 are undoubtedly the important year of this beginning of career. At 25 years hardly, Tété is located by Epic and becomes followed by an editor and a turner. It is also surrounded of two new accomplices: Evymoon, bass player whom it met at the time of his multiple scenic performances and Alberto Malo, beater and old friend. They then align the scenes and first parts (M, Louise Attaque, Femi Kuti, Tryo…), that is to say less than 115 concerts for the only year 2000, of which a participation noticed in the Francofolies of La Rochelle. France Inter is not long in programming it. The first maximum one, " Preamble " , leaves to Epic in November 2000 preceding the album " thus; air of nothing " appeared in January 2001.

Then begin a New Year's Day rich in concerts, posters divided with inter alia Patrice and Sanseverino, of many festivals, some dates with the Quebec, the whole alternated by a handle of the meetings of promotion. A growing public, of the charmed journalists and a certain recognition of professional environment are worth to him a first nomination with the Victories of the Music.

Between Paris and Montreal, 2002 are the hour of the return to the writing while listening to many musics: Nina Simone, M, Boogaerts, Jacques Dutronc, Ryan Adams, Tom Waits, Chris Whitley, the Cardigans, Björk, of musics 60' S and 70' S, of the hip-hop, traditional, the music jamaïcaine… Without forgetting its readings: Sartre, Pennac, Kerouac, Sallinger, Alphonse Allais, Evguenie Sokolov…

After a small year of absence, new songs are publicly tested at the time of a mini round solo before the entry in studio for the recording of the successor of " Air of Nothing " , " With the favor of the Fall ". This album leaves in 2004, year when it is nominated with the Victoires of the music. More worked, less stripped, less acoustic, this album mixes more required arrangements.

In 2006 Tété leaves its fourth album, " the sacring of Lemmings (and other tales of the edge) ".

One will probably recognize the influence direct or indirect, conscious or unconscious, of the play of guitar and the texture of the songs of Dick Annegarn. The first albums of Richard Gotainer and sound comparse musician/type-setter Claude Engel are there perhaps also for something.
