Tératome
A tératome is a type of Tumeur formed by germinal cells pluripotentes. The word rises from a Greek term meaning tumor monster . The tératomes usually begin with the transformation from cells present in the Testicule S at the man, in the ovary S at the woman and in the Sacrum in the child. The tératome term indicates a group of complex tumors having certain related cellular components with the normal activity of more than embryonic Feuillet. The tératomes can be divided into three categories:
This type of tumors often contains well differentiated cells which produce mature fabrics but at places inappropriate and often different from surrounding fabrics. For example, of the tératomes ovariens can produce hairs or teeth inside the ovaries. Some tératomes produce a mixture of mature and well differentiated fabrics: respiratory epithelium, pilous Follicule, fat Fabric or nervous Fabric mature. The immature tératomes of the ovary are potentially malignant just like the tératomes testiculaires, which are generally less better differentiated (thus with a darker forecast).
Some tératomes secrete the chorionic Gonadotrophine (HCG), the hormone which is used for the tests of pregnancy. The latter is useful for the follow-up of the treatment and the repetitions of tératomes, but should not be used as diagnostic marker. Other types of tératomes secrete thyroxine, sometimes with a degree such as a clinical Hyperthyroïdie becomes present.
Tératome and Cancer of the testicle
The cancer of the testicle or germinal tumor of the testicle often has several cellular quotas of different nature of which the tératome. This quota is often associated with a quota of embryonic Carcinome or, more rarely, of a quota of Tumeur of the vitelline bag. Less than 3% of cancers of the testicle are pure tératomes. The presence of a quota of tératomes in a cancer of the testicle has practical implications:- in fact lesions produce few metastases;
- they are on the other hand not very sensitive to chemotherapy;
- they have a very late risk of repetition which imposes a prolonged monitoring.
